Ewer

Diyarbakır (?), Turkey, Ottoman period, 18th century

Hammered, engraved copper with coloured enamels and remnants of gilding (tombak). Champlevé, a popular technique throughout Turkey and Syria at the time, was used to decorate the ewer. Its similarly decorated lid is missing. It is believed that it was part of a set with an identically produced basin.
